Empowering Your Love with Lettered Details

Sarah Barrett is the owner of Sarah B. Calligraphy and strives to empower your love with lettered details.

She is a graphic designer by trade but a calligrapher by heart. Her faith has truly pushed her to follow her passion. She believes in the unity of two people who are truly in love.

Through witnessing the beauty of her grandparents' love, her goal is to create pieces that can be treasured as heirlooms.

a note from the founder of the bare bride

In a wedding culture overflowing with cookie-cutter trends and brands, it can be easy to feel lost in the noise of it all. Who are you supposed to listen to? What should you subscribe to? Who can you trust?

Part of what I do at The Bare Bride is help down-to-earth wedding professionals get to the heart of why they do what they do and communicate it in a powerful way so that it can cut through the industry clutter and hook you right in the heart. Heart to Heart.

One of my Heart to Heart clients, Sarah Barrett, recently said #ByeFelicia to the corporate world to pursue her big time creative dream of running her own calligraphy biz. Pretty darn brave, right?!

I'll let her tell the story from here...

Q: Why did you take the leap to pursue a more heart-centered form of branding in a generally more shallow industry?

A: When I began my business, it was more about the products and services, and I wanted that mindset to change. I wanted my business to have a meaningful mission, a mission I really believed in. I came across The Bare Bride through a Facebook group and saw the Heart-to-Heart Method. It was exactly what I had been looking for. Not only would I focus more on the experience of my business but I was also thinking more about my ideal clients, people who really connected with me. Instead of catering to the masses with a generic brand, I offer my services with my unique clients' hearts in mind.

Q:  What is the true heart behind what you do at Sarah B. Calligraphy? Why do you do what you do?

A: I have a collection of love letters that my grandparents sent to one another and another collection my parents wrote to each other when my dad was in the Air Force. Being able to travel back in time to when my grandparents and parents were "courting" each other is really special to me. I want to provide details that can be passed down and treasured as well. Love is a special thing. I want to capture and empower love with my custom calligraphy and paper details.

Q: What is your all-time favorite movie?

A: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. Young Sarah Jessica Parker? Yes, please! I love the dancing, the music, and the fashion. It was one of the first movies I ever watched, and I can't get enough of it! I give it bonus points because Cyndi Lauper is amazing.

Q: If you could binge eat one food right now, what would it be?

A: I really love sushi. I've been craving it lately... and everyday!

Q: What is one thing that you bring to every bride you work with besides beautiful lettered details?

A: Besides lettered details, I offer a personal experience with my brides. I want to be there for them during this time. I am on their side because I know planning a wedding can be really stressful. When a bride comes to me, I want them to know that I'm going to alleviate stress about their paper and day-of details. They come to me because they trust that I can bring their vision to life and help create that vision if they're a bit lost.

Q: What projects are you working on right now?

A: I recently finished addressing envelopes, and I am discussing an invitation suite with a really sweet bride right now. She's wanting something elegant with a splash of calligraphy. Gold foil printing and light blue watercolor accents are in the works! It's going to be really beautiful. I love talking with my brides about all of their different options!

Q: What is something that you want every bride to know about their engagement and wedding planning?

A: Planning your wedding and preparing yourself for a life with your love are supposed to be fun, not stressful. Don't wait until the last minute to start planning anything! If you have a strategic plan to knock out some wedding duties in the beginning, you'll be able to relax more closer to the wedding day. I get inquiries where people want calligraphy for their invitation envelopes a week before they need to send the invitations out. Not only could I be booked, but I don't really have the appropriate time to carefully check everything and ship it back. Think about the timeline and book your photographer, caterer, calligrapher, etc. many months in advance. The sooner you contact your ideal wedding vendors, the better chance that they will be free!

If you can't already tell from her words above, Sarah is one of the most tender-hearted, kindest humans you will ever meet. Pair that up with her ravishing talent, her eye for creativity, and her desire to empower your love with her lettered details - you've got a sure win in a wedding vendor.

Working alongside Sarah is the most positive, inspiring experience. I can't recommend her enough for your wedding needs.
